House rules

To live in a student hostel is both inspirational and demanding. Inspirational because living together for an extended period gives the opportunity to develop strong bonds, and cultivates your abilities to create a good social environment. Demanding because it will require you to show cooperation and respect for others and their needs.

It is always good to have some basic common rules, and these are our rules:

  1. Keep your room clean and tidy. It is fine if you want to add some personal decorations to the room e.g.to hang pictures on the wall, but please contact a member of the hostel staff before you do it. Your room will be inspected by a member of the hostel staff every 14 days; you will be contacted in advance so that you can be present during the inspection. Before you move out you must clean the room.

  2. Many students have homework, and it is important to make sure that it is quiet enough so that they can work. It is not allowed to play loud music that will disturb the working environment before 7pm.

  3. Out of consideration to those with allergies and others, we cannot allow pets in the hostel.

  4. If you are going to have a friend/friends staying the night, you must arrange this with the hostel staff beforehand.

  5. The hostel staff go round all the rooms each morning to make sure that sick students are not left unattended.

  6. Students must not make excessive noise after 11 pm from Sundays to Thursdays and after 2 am on Fridays, Saturdays and the days before public holidays. At these times guests that have not prearranged an overnight stay must leave the hostel and the outer door is locked. If you wish to be out after this time, you should contact the hostel staff.

  7. If you need to store firearms, you must contact the hostel staff.

  8. It is not allowed to use or store alcohol or other drugs in the student hostel, and students under the influence of drink or drugs are not allowed on the school premises. You are responsible for making sure that alcohol or any other drugs are not found in your room or in communal rooms.

  9. It is expected that students will travel home on the weekends, but dispensations can be made for various reasons. You should give a weekend address to the hostel staff. The student hostel is closed for the Easter and Christmas holidays, and when there are several days off school together.

Termination of stay

  1. If you are no longer a student at the school, then you must move out from the hostel.

  2. Breaking the hostel rules can result in the loss of your place in the hostel. If the hostel staff suspect that a student is breaking the rules, they can make a room inspection when the student is present.

  3. Expulsion will in every case be handled by the hostel leader and the headmaster.

  4. Students wishing to move out must give 14 days notice. If a student is asked to leave they will be given 14 days notice.
